POWERCHINA NORTHWEST has completed the survey and design of more than 140 hydropower projects. Liujiaxia, Bikou, Longyangxia, Lijiaxia, Baozhusi, Gongboxia, Laxiwa hydropower stations have become the milestone projects of hydropower construction in China in different historical periods, representing the highest level of hydropower technology at the time at home or abroad.

POWERCHINA NORTHWEST also supplies the design supervision services for Baihetan and Wudongde hydropower projects on Jinsha river, the upper reach of Yangtze river, of the feasibility study stage. As one of the pioneers in pumped storage project development in China, POWERCHINA NORTHWEST is capable of undertaking the planning, survey, design, consultation and construction supervision for pumped storage power stations with complex conditions.

POWERCHINA NORTHWEST has undertaken the planning work of 4 national 10 GW wind power base, accomplished the survey and design work for 6.8 GW wind farms in Gansu Jiuquan wind power base, and 8 GW wind farms in Xinjiang Hami wind power base. POWERCHINA NORTHWEST is actively exploring the operation mechanism for multi-energy hybrid project (system) and wind-solar-hydro hybrid project (system). The aggregate installed capacity of wind power farms designed by POWERCHINA NORTHWEST has reached 40 GW, accounting for about 18% of the total installed capacity, ranking the top in China.

POWERCHINA NORTHWEST has participated in the compilation of first-batch technical standards for solar power engineering industry in China, and undertaken a number of national research projects, such as photovoltaic power generation key technology research, solar tower thermal power station, and key technology and application of sun island design. The installed capacity of grid-connected photovoltaic projec surveyed and designed by POWERCHINA NORTHWEST has reached 13 GW, ranking the top in China. In addition, POWERCHINA

NORTHWEST take the lead in POWERCHINA to organize the research on system integration of design, equipment manufacturing and construction for solar thermal power generation.

POWERCHINA NORTHWEST is keenly working on research on multi-energy approaches and integrated operating mechanisms for hydro, solar and wind power. POWERCHINA NORTHWEST has completed the “Study on Energy Rationalization for Yangtze River Economic Zone” and “Energy Planning for Western China Scitech Innovation Harbor”, which fully utilizes and embodies the innovative ideas of comprehensive energy utilization based on “Internet +” technology, and greatly promotes the flattening of the energy system through Internet.

With utilization of multi-energy approaches in engineering practice, POWERCHINA NORTHWEST has made a positive contribution to the world in energy saving and carbon emission reduction by improving land use rate and power supply quality as well as decreasing fossil energy consumption.
