Longyangxia Hydropower Station

Located on the borderline between Gonghe County and Guinan County of Qinghai Province, the Longyangxia Hydropower Station is a "dragon head" project in the cascade hydropower development plan for the reach from Longyang Gorge to Qingtong Gorge on the Yellow River. The reservoir has a gross capacity of 24.7 billion m3 corresponding to the normal pool level of EL.2600m, with good multi-year regulating capability. Major structures of the project include the main dam, gravity piers at both banks, auxiliary dams, outlet works, powerhouse and service building, its total installed capacity is 1280MW. The gravity arch dam has a maximum height of 178m. Its foundation treatment works was reckoned as a "challenging project". When completed, the Longyangxia Hydropower Station, among those completed hydropower stations in China, was the largest one with the biggest reservoir, the highest dam and the largest single unit capacity. It is still a model hydropower project in China. The project won the national gold prizes for its excellent engineering design and investigation.
