When commissioned, the Liujiaxia Hydropower Station is the first over-thousand-mega-watt hydropower plant in Asia. Its dam height, underground powerhouse scale, single unit capacity, ultra-high voltage transformation and transmission technology were in the leading level in China at that time. It is a milestone hydropower project in China in the 1960s. The project was awarded the Gold Prize for Excellent Engineering Design, the Top 100 Classic & Excellent Projects at the 60th Anniversary of New China's and other honours.
