Laxiwa Hydropower Station is an "iconic project" in the Yellow River basin. It has the largest installed capacity (4200MW), the biggest single unit capacity (700MW), the highest dam (250m) and the highest voltage rating (750kV). The main dam is a concrete double curvature arch dam. Flood release structures are constructed in the dam body. The powerhouse is arranged completely underground at the right bank. Its high ground stress study and the reverse arc plunge pool technology take lead in China.
